It's the first round of the 2016 Motorsport Ireland Karting Championship this weekend at Kartworld Adventure Centre in Cork.

I'm looking forward to getting out to race again in the IAME X30 Junior class.

The second final on Sunday will also be my 50th Motorsport Ireland race start.

Here are some stats about the track and the X30 Junior class.

Last week Motorsport Ireland announced the Team Ireland initiative, a national programme of support and development for talented drivers in the sports of rallying, racing and karting, supported by John Campion of APR Energy.

John was interviewed on RTE Radio 1's Saturday Sport show yesterday and while talking about Irish racing drivers he mentioned Craig Breen and me!

You can listen to the full interview here and I get a mention at about seven and a half minutes in.

Three years ago today I took part in my first ever kart race with the Irish Karting Club at White River Park. I finished in 9th place in the final which wasn't bad for a first attempt. It seems like such a long time ago now.

I can't wait to start my fourth season in two weeks' time.
